JABA’s FISH Mentors help support students and teachers…and transform lives.
Mentors support students academically and emotionally using growth mindset techniques, encouraging children to learn. Mentors volunteer at schools with teacher/staff support.
FISH Mentors:
- Improve students’ motivation, self-confidence, and socialization.
- Assist with academic subjects.
- Are homework helpers, play & learn partners, good listeners, and empathetic.
- Are consistent adults from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
All volunteers are thoroughly screened with an interview process, references, and background check.

“It has been so helpful having a JABA volunteer read to my students ... I cannot always give the 1:1 attention many students crave. My JABA volunteer fits this role well and students look forward to having him read a story.”
